6 Afghan security members were killed in Herat
Six policemen were killed and another was wounded in Pashtun Zarghun and Oba districts of Herat in the wake of a clash between government forces and the Taliban, security officials in Herat said. A spokesman for Herat Police Abdul Ahad Walizada told reporters today that the conflict has occurred in the villages of Dasht-e-Ashan, Dasht-e-Dost and Doha Joy of Pashtun Zarghun and Oba districts. He added that as a result of the conflict, 10 armed Taliban were killed and six others wounded.
Meanwhile, Herat Provincial Council chairman Kamran Alizai expressed concern over the increased threat posed by armed Taliban in parts of the province, in an interview with the Pasbanan news agency. Prior to Eid al-Adha, Herat police commander Aminullah Amarkhail launched a clean-up operation in Pashtun Zarghun and Obeh districts. At that time, Herat security officials said a number of districts in the area were cleared of armed Taliban. Pashtun Zarghun and Oba are among the most insecure districts in the country. Nowadays, armed Taliban are active in many parts of the two districts.
