46 Taliban killed and wounded in Zabul
Security officials in Zabul province say 46 Taliban insurgents have been killed and wounded in a counterattack by security forces in the Shinki district of the province.
“The counterattack by the country’s security and defense forces against the Taliban was launched after Taliban fighters intended to attack their checkpoints in the village of Doran,” Zabul governor’s spokesman Gul Islam Sial told the media on Monday. “Shinki district had 34 Taliban insurgents killed and 12 others wounded in the operation.”
Mr. Sial added: “Four security forces were also wounded during the clashes, and the health condition of these forces is reported to be good.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) wrote in a newsletter that 26 Taliban fighters had been killed in the counterattack by government forces, adding that three Taliban fighters had been killed in a pre-emptive strike by government forces in the northern district of the province.
So far, the Taliban have not told the media about the incident.
While Zabul province is located in the south of the country and is considered one of the most insecure provinces in the country, the Taliban group dominates most of it.
