Hayatullah Hayat, governor of Kandahar, has announced that a new garrison will soon be created to provide security in this southern province of Afghanistan. Mr. Hayat said the city’s garrison will consist of army, police and national directorate of security forces. Kandahar Garrison forces would be placed in the four gates of the city to prevent armed non-responsible people from entering the Kandahar city.
The decision comes that a few days ago, Obaidullah Barakzai, a member of House of Representatives from Uruzgan province, was assassinated by unarmed gunmen and died as a result of this attack. According to security officials in Kandahar, attackers were able to escape after targeting this Member of Parliament, and they have not yet succeeded in arresting an individual or a group linked to the incident.
