A US high ranking official meet with Taliban in Qatar
A senior American delegation led by Ellis Wills, deputy of the US Department of State for the South and Central Asia, met with Taliban representatives to look for ways to negotiate peace talks with the insurgent group in Qatar. Well-known sources with the issued told the Wall Street Journal that the senior US official to South Asia has met with Taliban officials this week to discuss issues on the Afghan peace talks.
The source also added: that these the talks were inspired by the Taliban. Because the three-day ceasefire showed how much of the Afghan people needed peace. US government officials and Taliban political representatives have not yet voiced their views on this issue. However, a US State Department official told the newspaper that Washington will examine all aspects of the issue so that Afghanistan can achieve lasting peace.
