Afghan lawmakers have approved a 399-billion-afghani (about 5.32 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for 1398 fiscal year on the Persian calendar, the country’s Ministry of Finance reported Tuesday. The 1398 fiscal year began on Dec. 22, 2018, and ends on Dec. 21, 2019.
“Afghanistan’s Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of parliament) in a session on Monday unanimously approved the budget for the fiscal year 1398,” the ministry said in a statement posted on its website. “Likewise, 49 percent of FY-1398 national budget would come from the domestic revenue and the rest from foreign aid,” the statement read. Of the total amount of the budget, 275 billion afghanis will be allocated for the ordinary budget, while 124 billion afghanis for development budget, according to the statement.
“The government priority in FY-1398 national budget document accounted for security, infrastructure, education, governance, agriculture, and rural rehabilitation sectors,” the statement noted.
