After the Taliban in Uzbekistan met with Uzbek officials and discussed several internal issues with senior Afghan officials about the future relationship between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, the issue has now sparked a backlash from the Afghan Foreign Ministry. In the most recent case, foreign ministry spokesman Sebghat Ahmadi said, “The official reception of Uzbekistan’s from Taliban representatives does not reflect Uzbekistan’s willingness to negotiate between the Afghan government and the Taliban.”
The remarks come as the Taliban and US negotiating body in Qatar are currently pushing for the eighth round of peace talks, and the two sides have announced a relative agreement and good progress has been made in the peace talks.
