Al-Qaeda network claims that Pakistani security forces have arrested the group’s leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri’s wife.

The al-Qaeda group said in a news release yesterday (Friday, 23 August) that the wife of Ayman al-Zawahiri was arrested by Pakistani security forces nearly a year ago.

A group news release said Pakistani forces had once arrested the wife of Ayman al-Zawahiri and the families of two members of the group who were fleeing heavy bombing in the tribal area of Pakistan.

“We hold the government, the US military and their advisers responsible for this crime,” the newsletter adds.

The Pakistani government has so far said nothing.

It is noteworthy that Ayman al-Zawahiri led the group after the killing of Osama bin Laden, the founder of the al-Qaeda network.

Osama bin Laden was killed in a US special operation in 2011 in the town of Abbottabad near Islamabad. The US has claimed that his body was thrown into the sea.
