Following the arrival of US Special Envoy Zalmai Khalilzad for the peace process in Afghanistan, he has announced that the US is planning to withdraw its troops from five of its military bases in the country. Zalmay Khalilzad told local media, “In order to fulfill the US commitment to the peace deal with the Taliban, the United States has decided to deploy five military bases in Afghanistan within 135 days.”

Although it is unclear where the bases are located and how they will be deployed, reports have emerged that disputes between the US and the Taliban are still pending. Today, however, the text of a draft peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban have also been made available to the media, stating that the United States is withdrawing unconditionally its troops from Afghanistan.
