Dawoodzai: Kabul will host a Loya Jirga meeting within three weeks

The head of Afghan Peace Council secretariat has announced, in a Conference called “National Women Research, for Peace and Security, said that for up to three weeks, Kabul will host a Peace Consultative Loya Jirga Meeting, which will be held for three days. Mohammad Omar Dawoodzai has emphasized that 30% members of this Jirga will be women. “For the first time, a non-governmental commission has been set up to hold the Loya Jirga summit, while in the past these kind of meetings were arranged by a government commissions, they were responsible for launching Loya Jirga meetings.”
The High Peace Council Secretariat head said the Loya Jirga preparation Commission will have at least 50 members, whose members will be elected from political parties, civil Society movements and women. He stressed that it would be necessary to make changes in the participation of women in this Jirga, probably they will provide some changes.
Meanwhile the US ambassador to Kabul John Bass, has called for more women to participate in peace talks. “Ensuring peace and security means that women can enjoy the rights and benefits of living in society, we respect the government and the people of Afghanistan, which they themselves decide on providing peace, to this country” said Mr. Bass. There are many improvements, especially in the women’s rights sector, which is worthy of praise. ”
President Ghani recently ordered the High Peace Council to launch the Peace Consultative Loya Jirga as soon as possible. This is while the Taliban are expected to hold their talks with the US envoy for Afghanistan peace in Qatar on 25th of February. It is also said that the government delegation will also attend to this meeting.
