Election commission former chief was sentenced to one year and one month in prison

According to the officials in anti-corruption justice cent (ACJC), Youssef Nuristani, former head of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), former governor of Herat and current member of the Senate, was sentenced to one year and one month in prison. Mr. Nuristani’s trail was held Sunday (5/may/2019) in his absence. Mr. Nuristani was accused of misusing his mandate as governor of Herat Province and receiving one million AFN from the National Bus department in Herat province, but he did not pay the money again to the state treasury.
The Anti-Corruption Justice Center (ACJC) in the Primary Court has sentenced Yusuf Nuristani to one year and one month in prison and continues to transfer back the amount of money which was taken by Mr. Nuristani as borrow to the state treasury. Meanwhile, officials in the primary Court of Anti-Corruption Justice Center have said that the former chairman of the Independent Election Commission can appeal to the appeal court. Mr. Nuristani’s defense attorney has denied all charges against his client.
Yusuf Nuristani is currently selected by President Ghani as a Senate nominee. Earlier, he served as governor of Herat ten years ago and was also responsible for the Independent Election Commission (IEC) during management 2014 presidential election was held with widespread fraud.
