But the government of Afghanistan, in response to Russia’s hosting of the Afghan Peace Summit, calls on Moscow to comply with its commitments to recognize Afghanistan’s leadership and ownership in this process. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that holding such meetings will not help Afghanistan to achieve peace.
State Department spokesman (Sebghatullah Ahmadi) said: “We are confident that these meetings will not come to a conclusion and will not help us to bring peace.” Our goal has already been clear and we are not supposed to attend this meeting.
Meanwhile, an American official said Russia’s hosting of the Taliban meeting with Afghan politicians was aimed at hurting peace talks and supporting the United States.
