Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the country, in a message on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, emphasized that the Taliban do not respect the expectations of the Afghan people. Mr. Ghani said, “While we were demanding a ceasefire from the Taliban during the holy month of Ramadan, the group responded with a battle and violence, the people expected the Taliban to launch cease-fire on the eve of the fire, but on the contrary, War and violence. As the Afghan government is based on its commitment to a ceasefire, I emphasize that if the Taliban want a ceasefire, the national unity government will also be fully prepared.”
The statements were made when the Taliban announced they had been releasing a newsletter that would continue their fight against the Afghan security forces. As during Ramadan, the group continued their guerrilla assault in major cities of the country, which increased civilian casualties in such events.
