Imran Khan: Afghan refugees are not forcibly expelled from Pakistan
The Pakistani prime minister says that Afghan refugees will not be forcibly deported from that country and Islamabad will host them. According to the Times of Islamabad newspaper, Imran Khan said that Afghan refugees will not be expelled from Pakistan afterward, in a meeting with Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Mr. Imran Khan assured UN refugee officials that Pakistan is continuing to host Afghan refugees. Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, also welcomed the Pakistani government and people for hosting four decades’ millions of Afghan refugees, saying their voluntary return will continue.
Pakistan is home to hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees. Earlier, Pakistan’s deadline for the withdrawal of more than 1.5 million Afghan refugees registered in the country 2017 was extended, but the deadline was extended for several times by the Federal Government of Pakistan.
