The Afghan Ministry of Defense has announced in a press release that the ministry of defense was able to inaugurate the 217 Pamir Corps, in northeastern of Afghanistan. According to the letter and on the basis of the Pasbanan report, yesterday’s deputy secretary of Defense ministry, Hilaludin Hilal, inaugurated this army corps in the northeast of the country which based in Kunduz province. Meanwhile, Mr. Hilal has announced the creation of this corps as an effort to secure security in the north-east zone, especially the vulnerable provinces of Kunduz, Baghlan, and Takhar.

The National Defense Ministry has also announced that General Nabiullah Mirza’i has been appointed as Commander of the 217 Pamir Corps. Previously, the 20-Pamir brigade was active in Kunduz province, after the collapse of the first round of Kunduz. At present, the Taliban are struggling with the widespread pressure on the northeastern provinces of the country to tighten their peace talks with the United States.
