Jens Stoltenberg: Taliban will not win the battle in Afghanistan
Taliban must understand they will not win the battle, and therefore they have to at the negotiation table with Afghan government for peace and agree on a political solution, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said. “The reason of our continued military engagement with Afghanistan is to enable Afghans to find a political solution for the current crisis,” he said after end of NATO Defense Ministers’ Meeting. We appreciate all the efforts that have led to this goal and we believe that Afghan peace process should be led by Afghans. ”
“Our Resolute support mission in Afghanistan is based on ground situation,” says Mr. Stoltenberg. Our goal is to strengthen Afghan security and defense forces so that they can protect their country and be fully responsible. We have witnessed their remarkable progress.” NATO Secretary General said.” We are still witnessing many challenges in Afghanistan and violence; we are witnessing terrorist attacks that civilians were sacrificed in the aftermath of the Kabul attack.”
The secretary general emphasized their continued presence in Afghanistan, meanwhile US intelligence officials had warned of increased fighting in spring. It is also a continuing concern that ISIL terrorists in upcoming year will also expand their activities.
