With the announcement of the preliminary results of the Afghan presidential election, which became public nearly after three months delay, the US ambassador to Kabul has now backed the announcement. “We witnessed the announcement of the election results by the Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC) today,” John Bess said in a Twitter message. “We thank the efforts of the election commissioners and other staff of the office who did a wonderful and patriotic job for the Afghan people.”

But Mr. Bass says this is not the end of elections result and there is still a long way to go before the final results are announced. “It is important for all citizens of Afghanistan to remember, these are preliminary results,” he said. “There are still many steps left to reach the final result so that the confidence of all Afghans can be achieved through the election results.”

The senior US politician in Kabul also reiterated that the United States supports the vital work of the Electoral Complaints Commission to reach complaints before the final results are announced.
