Following a 15-day visit by Zalmai Khalilzad to European and Islamic countries linked to Afghan peace, Mr. Khalilzad is now in Belgium and has met with NATO officials. NATO has published a newsletter which states: “Currently, Zalmai Khalilzad, the Special Envoy for Afghanistan’s Peace, met with the Secretary-General of NATO. This is a typical part of the vote on the Afghan peace process. He informed NATO allies and the Resolute Support Mission allies on Afghanistan peace progress.”
These meetings are being conducted while Mr. Khalilzad said in an interview with the media that the withdrawal of American and foreign forces from Afghanistan encompasses many years, until the United States would be assured that the geography of Afghanistan is not like a safe haven to target Third country and US would not be threatened by terrorists any more.
