Zalmay Khalilzad special representative of the USA for Afghanistan peace went to Qatar today to begin the eighth round of peace talks. The US special envoy wrote on his Twitter page last night that the Taliban also want peace talks to be finalized.
“We want a final deal with the Taliban and a peace deal, not a withdrawal of US troops,” he said. The US military presence in Afghanistan is related to the situation in Afghanistan.
Reportedly, this round of peace talks is expected to address the following issues:
- Agreement on the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan
- The Taliban’s commitment to the United States that Afghanistan will not become a terrorist nest again
- Taliban talks with the Afghan government will begin in Articles 1 and 2, but the possibility of an agreement on Articles 3 and 4 will come soon.
Meanwhile, former President Hamid Karzai told the National Unity Government that peace should be a top priority for the country and that the elections should not be held during this time because Afghanistan must first have peace, and then hold elections.
