Launching a new round of peace talks between US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad with Afghan Taliban senior officials in Qatar, Leading US Senator Lindsey Graham warned yesterday that any hasty exit from Afghanistan is a strategic mistake. It will harm the interests of America.
“The Taliban cannot be trusted as a loyalist and anti-terror force, so the United States must keep thousands of its troops in Afghanistan to keep the situation under control,” Mr. Lindsay said. The number of US troops would decrease in upcoming months from 13000 to Eight thousand and Six hundred in the near future, but says it is a result of the capacity building of the Afghan security forces.
However, Mr. Ghani had said that the process of withdrawal of foreign forces would not have a negative impact on the security situation in the country and that the security and defense forces of the country would be able to defend their country against any threat.
