Massive return of Afghan refugees due to substantial depreciation of the Iranian Rial

SIGAR or the Office of the Special Inspector General for the Reconstruction of Afghanistan has announced that this year, Afghanistan has witnessed the massive return of refugees from Iran back to Afghanistan. “The voluntary return of Afghan refugees from Iran has risen dramatically this year. In the past few years, after substantial depreciation of the Iranian Rial at the exchange markets and low labor rights, many Afghan refugees have returned to their country.”
Meanwhile, the Immigration Agency has announced that at least 100,000 Afghan refugees from Iran and Pakistan have voluntarily returned in 1397. Currently, Afghanistan has close to one million refugees in Iran.
