The day before, the Taliban had sent a newsletter to the telecommunications companies and warned them that if the networks stayed active on Election Day, they would damage their facilities. Since that, as well as after holding numerous meetings between security agencies and telecommunications networks, it is expected that the activity of telecommunications companies across the country will not be inactivated on the day of the presidential elections.
Meanwhile, ministry officials have called on citizens to deter the Taliban in areas under threat. “If the citizens of Afghanistan stand alongside the telecommunications companies and do not allow the Taliban to target the assets and facilities of these institutions, the telecommunication services will be not shut down,” the ministry said in a statement. That the Taliban have already destroyed fiber-optic in several parts of the country to cut off telecommunications services using mines and other terrorist acts.
