OCA in Kabul To Oversee NOC Election
The deputy head of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and head of the International Kurash Association on Monday arrived in Kabul to assess the status Afghanistan’s status and oversee the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee’s (NOC) election.
The delegation chaired by OCA deputy head, Husain Al-Musallam, met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah.
The delegation also met on Monday with the NOC officials and heads of the different federations in Kabul.
“We want a transparent, fair and impartial election in which no one and no government institutions should interfere politically. The election should be acceptable to Afghanistan’s sporting society,” NOC chairman Mohammad Zaher Aghabar said.
The Presidential palace said in a statement on Monday evening that President Ashraf Ghani met with the Olympic Council of Asia delegation and discussed cooperation with and the promotion of Afghanistan sport.
The OCA delegation thanked Ghani for his support for Afghanistan sport.
Ghani said the NOC election will be held and asked the delegation to cooperate in holding the election in line with the accepted procedures.
