US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, on a trip to the state of Texas, has announced that Washington is seeking to end the longest war in Afghanistan. Speaking to a number of university students, Mike Pompeo has said, “This morning, I speak with our Special Envoy for Afghan Peace, we are trying to put an end to the longest US-funded US-led conflict in Afghanistan. Our goal is to protect the lives of Afghan and American troops.”
These statements are being made when Zalmai Khalilzad, the Special Envoy for Afghanistan Peace, is scheduled to meet next week between the Taliban and 250 government representatives in Qatar. In addition, today, President Ghani has met with all of his delegation at the Presidential Palace.
