Local authorities in Ghazni province announced that Afghan forces were able to recapture Khwaja Omari district. According to Ghazni Governor’s statements, the Afghan National Army (ANSF) forces were able to capture Khwaja Omari district after one year by launching air and ground operations this afternoon. Ghazni Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai said: “The security forces launched this operation on Khwaja Omari district rehabilitation program early this morning and managed to seize the entire district at 9 o’clock in the morning.”
Mr. Kalimzai continues to emphasize: “The Taliban are now unable to deal with the security forces, and they left Khwaja Omari district after a small resistance. We are determined to re-establish the centers of the districts that were previously transferred from their main centers to their main places and to take the necessary measures to ensure the security of the roads in these districts.”
Local authorities in Ghazni province said the security forces and civilians were not harmed during the recapturing operation of Khwaja Omari district. In the previous two weeks, after recapturing of Deh-Yak district, Khwaja Omari is the second district of Ghazni, which has been taken by afghan forces from the Taliban control. The district fell to the Taliban a year ago during an aggressive attack on the city of Ghazni. According to reports, at least 9 Ghazni districts are currently under Taliban control.
