Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president, in the electoral team of president Ghani has refused his participation in Qatar Intra-Afghan summit. Saleh has written on his Facebook page: “I am thankful of the honourable President of the country and the Supreme Council of reconciliation, which insert my name on the list of Participants at the Qatar summit, but I want to inform my fellow countrymen and women that I will not attend this meeting due to technical and personal reasons of the upcoming summit.”
He has also stated: “The Taliban have been the biggest and only obstacle to Afghanistan’s peace and prosperity by interacting with the Government of the Republic of Afghanistan and emphasizing on the continued killing of civilians and ordinary teachers. If the Taliban believe in Afghanistan and its people and it is not a means to serve the foreign interests, then they should negotiate with the government and obey the will of the Afghan people. ”
The announcement comes at a time when the consultative Loya Jirga of peace will be held by the government in Kabul after several weeks. At least 2,500 people from around the country are expected to attend this meeting.
