In the run-up of the consultative Loya Jirga summit with the presence of 3,000 delegates from across Afghanistan, the Taliban have now release a newsletter which has stated: “The meeting has been launched by the government to extend the presence of foreigners and the main reason for the continuation of fighting in the country,” the Taliban group said. We wish that all the participants in this meeting, will stand against this summit and by boycott of the meeting, the must isolate the government more than before.”

Meanwhile, the Taliban group has said that there are currently attempts to hold an intra afghan meeting between all Afghan parties and the Jirga will not have the essence. According to the statement of Taliban: “All Afghan citizens and political parties are required not to participate in the dramatic and conspiratorial Jirga. While progress has been made in the peace talks with the United States, as well as the some progress are on the way in Intra-Afghan peace talks, the government is working to set up a consultative Jirga to challenge the real peace process of Afghan people and they are willing to prevent our peace efforts.”

These statements are being made while former Afghan President Hamid Karzai also underscored the need for a Consultative Loya Jirga that will block peace and stability in the country. In addition, reports suggest that at least 50 prominent political figures have been banned from the presidential candidates for the Peace Consultative Jirga.
