However, since the beginning of the national unity government, it was expected that the government would take a decisive decision to repair the Salang highway connecting at least 9 of the Northern provinces with Kabul. It is now reported that the highway is completely destroyed and the government has been neglected to rebuild this highway.

The Salang highway is one of the most important transit routes of the country and has been completely destroyed for several years. A number of passengers traveling on this route say in an interview with the Pasbanan News Agency that in past they were traveling from this route in an hour ago, but now they are traversing the route four hours later due to the destruction of the Salang Road.

In the past year, however, the Minister of Public works had been working on the Salangs’ rebuilding of the highway over a year ago, but there is no news about the construction of this route yet. The Residence of Khenjan and Salang district say they have suffered more from respiratory illness due to the sandstone effect on this route. According to these residents, the authorities responsible for the maintenance of salvages in the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Public Works have neglected to rebuild this route.
