The European Union: countries Accept asylum seekers will receive money
The European Union hopes to convince member states to open reception centers for asylum seekers rescued from the Mediterranean Sea in return for receiving money. The European Union’s executive body has written on a two-page plan that wants to provide “full financial support” to any country in the European Union that volunteers to establish asylum seekers acceptation center on their territory. In these centers, the process of identifying and reviewing asylum seekers’ files would be handled.
The volunteer countries will receive close to 6,000 euros for each asylum seeker. In addition, the European Union will pay for the transfer of these asylum seekers, estimated money at around EUR 500. EU leaders launched a debate last month on setting up “control centers” to examine asylum-seekers inside Europe, and in northern Africa.
