In the most recent case, the National Unity Government has formed a new formation called “Compromise Leadership Council”, for planning to form a negotiating group to discuss peace deal with the Taliban. Based on the presidential palace newsletter, the council is formed of political leaders, jihadi and influential figures. At the first meeting of the council, all sides discussed the formation of a new peace negotiating team and, as well as Qatar’s second meeting with Taliban, the newsletter has stated that all sides have exchanged their views on this regard.
According to the newsletter in this meeting, President Ghani said that his efforts for peace have now managed to bring everyone under the umbrella to discuss the future of peace talks with the Taliban to a satisfactory conclusion. However, the tensions between Kabul and Washington in the weeks following after accusation of Zalmai Khalilzad have also challenged the prospects for Afghan peace talks.
