The Taliban announced the possibility of a peace deal with the United States at a future meeting

Sohail Shahin, a spokesman for the Taliban’s political office in Qatar, told media Thursday (01 August) that peace talks have reached the final stage.
He also said that long talks between US officials and Taliban representatives had come to an end and hoped to be signed next week in a face-to-face dialogue on the end of the Afghan war between the Taliban and Americans.
Zalmay Khalilzad, US special envoy for peace in Afghanistan, also announced yesterday the possibility of signing a peace agreement with the Taliban.
Mr. Khalilzad said he was headed to Qatar’s capital Doha to finalize a peace deal with the Taliban.
Mr. Khalilzad, who has been in Kabul for the past few days, also said that the United States and Afghanistan have agreed on “next steps for peace”.
