US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan arrived in Kabul this morning. Foreign media have reported that Mr. Shanahan will meet with President Ghani along with his US troops in Afghanistan.

Mr. Shanahan also said that he will meet with leaders of the National Unity Government on peace talks in the country. However, Al Jazeera TV reported that (Shanahan is meeting with President Ghani, whose government did not play a role in last month’s talks between US and Taliban delegates to end the 17-year Afghan war.)

The head of the ministry also adds: It is important for the Afghan government to be present in peace talks. He suggests that the Taliban group has always refused direct talks with the Afghan government and has emphasized direct talks with the United States.

On Sunday, President Ghani said at a meeting with the elders of Shinwar and Momd, Nangarhar, that if the Taliban come to Kabul to negotiate, they will open a political office for them and take their security.
