Explosion in Lebanon has killed at least 78 people and injured 4,000 others
Lebanese health officials say yesterday’s blast in that country caused heavy casualties and the number of wounded and killed is changing at any moment.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun wrote on his Twitter page: “The 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate used to make the bomb were stored in a warehouse without regard to safety precautions, and this is ‘not acceptable.’
The Lebanese Ministry of Health has confirmed that 78 people were killed in a powerful explosion in Beirut, the capital. About 4,000 people were injured in the blast.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in the Beirut port area, and witnesses said the blast was so intense that you could not hear it for a moment.
Lebanese officials say the death toll is likely to rise and rescue teams are pulling out the victims.
