The cause of Helmand battles, why did the fighting in Helmand become bloody?
Abdul Manan Tawhidyar
From Sunday onwards, shocking and most sensitive images of Helmand’s citizens were published in the media. These impoverished province residents were evicted from their homes, leaving their homes in Nad Ali, Marjah, and Nawa districts. They tried to survive the battle, and such images had previously been published in the media due to the escalation of Taliban fighting. The Taliban, who had done such an act so many years ago, suffered heavy casualties and inevitably retreated. Or that the group’s fighters were killed in battle and fled the scene.
For the past 19 years, the Taliban have been trying to overthrow Lashkar Gah, the Helmand center, and have always dreamed of doing so. Still, to date, the group has failed to achieve such a victory, and in a dream with the Afghan security and defense forces, they are alive. They have always lost the war, and their pursuit of capturing Lashkargah was not fulfilled. The group has tried to use human shields and build trenches to work in ordinary people’s homes and disrupt security in their target areas, but when they entered the field, they failed, and their fighters died. Dozens of Taliban insurgents have been sent to death or detained alive.
The Taliban hid in several alleys and back alleys in Nad Ali district this time, and after fighting began, they began firing on security forces. After the bloody battle continued for four days and nights, many families were forced to leave their homes. The Taliban have realized that they are incapable of maintaining an area. The Taliban’s primary method in the current battle is to destabilize guerrilla attacks and fortify ordinary Helmandi citizens’ homes and increase panic among the people. In the present war, the Taliban have shielded women and children by entering people’s homes and forced most families to leave their homes.
Most families have now fled Nad Ali, Marjah, and Nawa districts because the Taliban tried to launch offensive attacks by shielding civilians and continue their fighting against security forces as well as fortifying their homes. This approach of the Taliban shows that the group is targeting the security forces in various ways. The Taliban have now displaced dozens of families by disregarding the principles of war. The group wants to tighten the people’s situation to increase popular pressure on the government.
The four-day battle in Helmand is, in fact, one of the clearest examples of the Taliban’s new movements. Published photos of Helmand anomalies and the continuation of bloody wars in Lashkar Gah have displaced dozens of families. The Taliban, currently at the negotiating table with the Afghan government, want to weaken the security forces. They are trying to keep the fighting instead of ending the war; Such an approach by the Taliban proves that the group is not committed to any peace. Although the Afghan security and defense forces are on the defensive mode at the behest of the people, the Taliban do not dare to confront the Afghan security and defense forces. Instead, they have increased their guerrilla fight by shielding defenseless people, they are trying to change the situation at the peace table in their favor.
