NATO will continue its efforts to boost Afghanistan military power

As the war intensifies at least in more than 20 provinces of Afghanistan, Jens Stoltenberg, NATO secretary-general, says that the organization would continue to support Afghanistan institutions and Afghanistan security forces as the NATO forces are withdrawing from Afghanistan.

 

Jens Stoltenberg raised the issue during a meeting with the French president Emanuel Macron in Brussels. He stated: “We also addressed our fight against terrorism. NATO is stepping up training in Iraq. We are looking at ways to provide more support in the Sahel region. And in Afghanistan, as we end our military presence, we are opening a new chapter.”

 

Once again NATO secretary-general clarified that NATO would stand shoulder to shoulder with the Afghan government and its security forces. Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO would continue its support to Afghanistan from outside of the country. The support would be provided to the Afghan institutions and Afghan forces in different phases.

 

NATO SG stated that NATO’s future support would have three main pillars. According to him: “First, we plan to provide advice and capacity-building support to Afghan security institutions.” He also stated that NATO would provide support to ANDSF. According to him, “As well as, by continued financial support to the Afghan security forces. Second, we are planning to provide military education and training outside Afghanistan, focusing on Special Operations Forces.

 

Meanwhile, he said:” And third, we are planning to fund the provision of services. Including support for the functioning of Kabul airport. All this will enable NATO Allies and the broader international community to continue to help the Afghan people and contribute to the peace efforts.”

 

Continuation of NATO military and civil support to Afghanistan is made at a time that the country’s security situation is fragile.

 

The Afghan citizens are facing a new wave of Taliban and other terror groups violence; at the meantime, the Intra-Afghan peace talks are facing new obstacles, the Afghan citizens believe that the current wave of violence is harmful to the future of the Talks and the Afghan government urged Taliban to hold an immediate cease-fire.
