The Afghan Ministry of Defense announces the attack on hundreds of Taliban fighters in the Bala-Morghab district of Badghis province. The Taliban attacked the district last night around twelve hours at night, Defense Ministry spokesman Qais Mangal said. He also says security forces have retreated from several checkpoints for preventing civilian casualties.
But Governor Abdulwarais Shirzad says the attack killed at least 35 Afghan soldiers, and more were captured. Taliban Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a tweet, the Taliban attacked five security checkpoints in the province, killing at least 12 soldiers and capturing 12 others.
Badghis Provincial Council members warned that the loss of Afghan forces stationed in the district will increase in the spring if the turbulent security situation in the district of Baghlan is not resolved.
