The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and live stoke said Afghanistan produced 10,000 tons of fish this year.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and live stoke , Akbar Rustami, told media that Afghanistan has produced 10,000 tons of fish this year,  which is increased  up to   3,000 tons from  last  year.

Mr. Rostami added: The fish that is produced in Afghanistan provides a portion of the country’s meat needs and supplies the country with the most need for fish from abroad.

The ministry also said that currently there are 3,000 fish farms throughout the country, most of them in the provinces of Kandahar, Nangarhar, Helmand, Balkh, Laghman and Herat.

According to spokesman, the Ministry of Agriculture and live stoke intends to create between 80 and 90 new fish farms in the country in 2019.

The use and consumption of fish in Afghanistan has been commonplace since past years. The ministry is trying to make Afghanistan self-sufficient in terms of fish meat production.
