Heavy casualties have been inflicted to armed oppositionists in the past 24 hours as a result of airstrikes and security operations in insecure parts of Pul-e-Khumri. Army forces in Baghlan say the Taliban governor in Baghlan was also among those Taliban insurgents who were killed in past 24 hours, it is also said that the group’s intelligence chief in the northeast zone, the Taliban district chief for central Baghlan and several of their top commanders are also seen among the dead bodies.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense confirmed that during the operation, security forces completely destroyed six Taliban strategic bases in Zamankhail area of Pul-e-Khumri along with a cache of ammunition. As a result of these operations, the Baghlan-Kunduz highway was reopened after several days of traffic, according to the Baghlan police spokesman. An unnamed security source also says the Taliban government was one of the most dangerous commanders in the northern and northeastern zone of the Baghlan province. It waged many wars in the northeast of the country.

On the other hand, Baghlan police spokesman says heavy casualties have been inflicted on Taliban as a result of air operations in the central Baghlan district. Hundreds of special forces are now said to be engaged in military operations and clearing areas of Taliban control in several parts of Baghlan.
