The Ministry of Defense announces that the security forces have been cleared Marjah district of Helmand after four years.

In a special operation, security forces killed 37 Taliban militants including a military commander of the group, Mullah Abdul Bari, and wounded dozens.

The newsletter also said Afghan security forces defused three roadside mines, destroyed two caches of weapons and destroyed one of the group’s bases during the operation.

Local officials in the province say the Marjah district has been under Taliban occupation for four years and has now become a safe haven.

The Taliban have not said anything so far.

Helmand province is one of the most insecure provinces in the country, most of which are under Taliban control.
